UOC SNOW: BUISC 2015

This year, UoC Snow smashed BUISC North for the first time in its 15 years history, with our 5 finest competitors and our wildest supporters.

Having made our way down in transit with minibuses and cars, UoC Snow embarked on a quest to discover the finest pubs and bars in Wakefield.. Oh yes. In actual fact, it turns out Wakefield is not a great night out, so the service station travel lodge did just fine with some wine and a few crates of beer. After some casual drinking to relax the tense athletes and weary supporters UoC Snow was ready for BUISC North in the morning.

Having fought through the morning traffic and endless 50mph zones, UoC Snow's ski slalom finest (Kayleigh Hill, Alex Thompson and Sam Douglas) embarked on a mission to prove UoC Snow were serious about wanting to compete in the UK's University ski racing arena.

After a tense warm up session, filled with rusty turns and nervous carves from the boys and girls racing for us, Kayleigh was up first. Overcoming all nerves, Kayleigh pulled out an astonishing 26th out of 55 female competitors, a result we could only have dreamed of for our first ever competitor. And so, the bar was set.

Next up were the boys, with Sam first and Alex directly after him. Having stayed calm by discussing NGHTWRK plans, and establishing a passionate hatred for all the try hards at the top (who engaged in some weird stretching ritual that looked like something from the exorcism) the boys did not disappoint. Sam coming 41st and Alex 33rd out of the 80 male competitors... Middle of the pack is not something they should be disappointed with.

The days success didn't end there, with Owen Davis securing 36th in a dramatic snowboard slalom that saw our President relieved of nerves for the drive home having achieved the unthinkable.

It's unlikely such outstanding results could have been achieved without the support of the UoC Snow fans, who could be heard in the Alps cheering for our skiers and boarder as they descended round the coloured poles, so thanks to you guys and girls for helping the racers through!!

To celebrate the morning’s success, TGI's of course...

As our racers and spectators headed home after a tiring morning of competition fuelled fun, Matt Farnworth stepped up to the stage to prove UoC Snow was ready for freestyle. Having tested the park Matt knew what he was capable of... more than what the park would allow. With just two runs Matt had to try and secure a solid first run to ensure safety from finals eliminations. Boy did he do that, achieving 56 on his first run Matt had no troubles sticking down, what he so eloquently referred to as "Blind 2, back swp, Blunt 3 then 2 out of the last rail".. yea, O.k. Matt... and an even more impressive second run saw that Matt finished 6th place out of the 45 male jibbers, with a score of 62 on his 2nd run.

Good luck in the National Finals in March Matt!!

UoC Snow has proved a point that they are here to stay and next year we will be training regularly with the proper kit to ensure we improve on this year’s already impressive results.

Thanks again to all those that came to support x
